Example 1
The cover-copy-compare method can be utilized to help a student practice and remember their spelling words. To do this, the teacher would have the student(s) write down all of their spelling words, or just the ones they struggled with, on the left hand side of the worksheet or paper. The students would then study the first one, cover it up, copy it on the right hand side, and then compare their spelling of the word with the correct spelling. If they made an error, they would repeat the process. If they didn't, the student could move on to the next word.
Example 3
This intervention can also be used as a means of remembering history facts. For example, the student can write down their topic along with the most important facts s/he should know about that topic. Then, one by one, the student could study it, cover it up, and then try to copy it on the other side of the paper.

Example 2If a student is struggling with remembering their math facts, this strategy can be used to aid them. The teacher, or student, can write the facts down on the left hand side of the worksheet and then practice them on the right side using the cover-copy-compare method where they first study the fact before covering it and copying it from memory. They then compare what they wrote with the original math fact.
Example 4
Another way this strategy could be used to help a struggling student is in the content area of science to help them remember the important details of a process or method. For instance, the student could write down the process they are struggling with on a piece of paper. Then, they can study the first line, cover it up and attempt to copy it. They then compare what they wrote with the line they were trying to copy. This is then repeated with the rest of the method they are trying to remember.

ABOVE: This video is a brief demonstration on how to introduce and use the Cover-Copy-Compare strategy with aiding a student on remembering math facts. Once students have been shown how to do this intervention, they will be able to do it without help because of its simplicity. Although this video has the student cover using an index card, covering can be done by folding the page over on top of the problem or with their other hand. Index cards are not an essential material.
LEFT: This is a template that could be used with the Cover-Copy-Compare strategy. The teacher or student could write the facts they are trying to remember in the left hand side of the paper, study the first one, and then fold the paper along the dotted line to cover it up while they copy it on the right. They can then compare their answer by flipping it back open and looking at the original.
