Although this video shows a teacher using this strategy with an adult man who is learning how to read, it does an excellent job of demonstrating how a teacher can guide and support students with the decoding by analogy strategy. Throughout the video, a person is also able to see multiple different ways that students can practice making new words by changing a part of the word. For instance, the two foam cups written on are a creative and economical way to help the struggling reader who is learning how to read practice words through the strategy, decoding by analogy.
