TruthAs a matter of fact, some English language learners may be immigrants, but not all of them are. As stated in chapter one of the SIOP book, some English learners are newcomers to the United States, some have lived in the United States for several years, and many are native born. Even if a student immigrated recently to the U.S., has lived here for several years, or all their life, their range of language is going to still vary amongst each student. One student who was born in the United States may have only been raised speaking their native language at home so they are further behind in English. Whereas another student who may have recently immigrated may have been practicing the language for many years so they already have a good understanding of it. It all depends on the student, where they come from, and the background experiences.
